Reflection
For the competency of "complying with organizational and professional codes of ethics," I am using the CITI program course I took when I started my degree. This program was made of two introductory courses: Responsible Conduct of Research and Responsible Conduct of Research training. These courses were mandatory for me to proceed with my graduate studies.
I've been very aware of the legal and ethical implications regarding school work. My course emphasized things I knew while doing my bachelor's. It also takes it a step further by guiding how your research may differ at the graduate level from the undergraduate level. It talks about the legal parameters of what to use and what not to use while doing long-term research, and it gives Purdue's policy on plagiarism and its consequences.
When getting my bachelor's degree, I ensured that my sources were cited and I conducted research honestly. I was also an analyst in the military for 18 years, so ensuring that you knew your source and had correct information was always a given. This course gave me more insight into how to do higher-level research correctly. By taking this course, I learned about Purdue's policy, and I will follow that policy's rules and regulations. The course is also a good source to return to if you need further guidance on Purdue's policies.
