Artifact: Instructional Design Models Persuasive Essay

Reflection

For the competency, “explain key concepts and principles related to instructional design,” I have selected my Instructional Design Models Persuasive Essay as an artifact. This essay compares and contrasts three different instructional design models while describing two of the widely used models. This essay breaks down the ADDIE and SAM models and looks at the pros and cons of using them for an instructional design project. I also touched on another model, ASSURE, and how it compares to ADDIE and SAM. Finally, based on my findings, I provided my opinion on whether an instructional designer should use one or a blend of models.

When I wrote this essay, ADDIE was the only instructional design model I was familiar with. I had worked with ADDIE through designing government training and, at times, was frustrated with its processes because while ADDIE may have worked with one project, I didn’t believe it was always a “one size fits all” solution. I wanted more options when designing different types of training for the government.   Writing this essay gave me insight into other instructional design models that could be used for the various kinds of training I was designing. Through my research for this essay,   I could look at several other models, learn their processes, and compare them to ADDIE.

Writing this essay gave me more options for designing training for future projects. It’s also shown me that I can use a blended version of those models. With more design options, I’m able to recommend to stakeholders a different way of creating training that could be more efficient for that particular project. In the future, I will continue using all the other models I learned to become more efficient in designing training.
