Sub-Badge: Gap Analysis

Challenge: Conducting a gap analysis

Criteria: Conduct a gap analysis to describe the nature of a learning or performance problem and propose a potential instructional and/or non-instructional solution and strategies.

Artifact: My performance analysis paper on cyber training

Reflection

For the competency of "conducting a gap analysis," I am using a paper I wrote in EDCI 513 about improving cyber training in the Navy. In this paper, I conducted a gap analysis of deficiencies in cyber training within the Navy Intelligence Community.

I initially chose this subject because it was a real issue I had to address during my active duty in the Navy. I worked as an intelligence specialist in the cyber community, and the cyber analysis did not identify the training needed for their intelligence specialists to succeed operationally. The performance analysis product was a paper I wrote that identified the performance gaps, their causes, and plans to close them. When placing the drivers of the gaps, I also had to identify their root causes. Doing this helped me understand how to fill or correct those gaps potentially.

While doing this assignment, I recalled a time in the Navy when I really had to address a similar issue. I wish I had this assignment and the associated process back then when I worked on the original problem. Learning how to perform a training gap analysis will help me better understand issues in future projects and how to solve them. It also provided me with another tool for conducting a needs analysis.
