Reflection
For the competency, “select or create an instructional design process based on the nature of the project,” I have selected a document I created with my team at work called an Instructional Design roadmap. The roadmap breaks the ADDIE process down for instructor lead and web-based training for the project. Within the process, It shows the client the activities that are done, sample products completed, and the timeline for each phase in ADDIE for the project. Doing this gave the client a good overview of how we use ADDIE to design and develop training.
When my team and I created this document, we thought that clients needed a document that explained ADDIE and what it entails. I had seen on other projects that I was on how the client didn’t understand the ADDIE process, and this would have made it very difficult while we were designing their products. On this project, I wanted to ensure that the client had a better understanding of ADDIE, the products produced in each phase, and the timelines.
When we presented the roadmap to the client, not only did they love it, but they also encouraged the use of it for all future projects. I’ve also used it for projects of my own. Looking back, creating this road map helped the client understand our processes, and it also helped me learn how to create products that could help others understand instructional design and its processes.
